Week 21: A Valentines Date With Sleeping Beauty and Peter Pan

So exhausted from the long weekend of work. But I did get to see Andrew and Matthew last weekend which was awesome! I hung out with them, watched Andrew play broom hockey in the counselors vs. staff game (staff won, of course.), went down the tube run with Matt. Andrew videotaped Matt going on the big swing, which was great. It was so nice to see friends from home again.

Monday was the start of our second week of preview students. We got a student in our room this time, and of course her name was Shelby! I’m pretty sure Jen was sitting in her office thinking, “Hmmm, I think I’ll put Shelby in Hannah and Shelby’s room to make things confusing!” But it was good. I do regret not spending a ton of time with her. She was so quiet and didn’t really ask any questions, so I really didn’t know what to say around her. I ended up spending more time with the guy previews playing Farkle and Bang.
After the previews left on Wednesday, we got right into Valentine ’s Day mode. That morning our awesome, amazing, INCREDIBLE Joshua brothers got up super early to make us a Valentines day breakfast! They all dressed up, seated us, waited on us; it was great! They even cut the fruit and pancakes into heart shapes! Best. Valentine'd Day. EVER!

The Joshua students do a fundraiser dinner every year for the Hume staff couples. We decorate the building and host dinner and dancing. We spent all Thursday doing décor, cooking, cleaning, and setting up things for that night. We had everything from a photo booth to an Italian soda station! I got to babysit for the Johnsons, which was fun! They have two kids, Tanner and Jet. We played play-doh and had quesadillas. Tanner wanted to play dress up, so we got out all her princess dresses and did that when Jet ran in the room and decided we wanted to play too! It was so cute to see him running around the house in a sleeping beauty dress! Afterwards, we watched Peter Pan (gasp, a movie?!). Well, I listened to Peter Pan and switched between doing homework and playing solitaire while the kids watched. The dinner was a huge success and everyone enjoyed themselves.

Over the past week, we had Darin McWatters as our speaker, the founder of the Joshua Wilderness Institute. Also, he’s one of the hosts on the podcast Frank the Podcast, which I love a lot! He talked to us about evangelism, which we will be doing in LA next week. I was totally put off by the idea until he talked about it. It feels more natural and real now. I’m paired with Logan for our street evangelism and I’m really excited to see how things go in LA. It’ll definitely be weird and awkward at first but hopefully it’ll get easier.

Friday was the start of another four day work weekend. Boy, am I exhausted for it. For some reason my back has been killing me, so I was taking lots of ibuprofen on Sunday. It was a good weekend though. I had a lot of fun working with Esther again. We totally like a lot of the same movies and music. We spent time just quoting Monty Python and Emperor’s New Groove while we worked. I really am seeing how great working SS over summer will be.
